A BIZARRE new gym class that consists of nothing but sleeping for 45 minutes is heading to Bromsgrove this week – becoming only the second area in the UK to trial the craze.

David Lloyd trialled its new ‘Napercise’ wellbeing class in Sidcup at the end of April, with the idea proving such a hit that it is being tested elsewhere in the country.

Residents in Bromsgrove have been picked as the next set of trialists, with the David Lloyd club on Slideslow Drive hosting sessions at 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm, on Thursday, June 8.

Laura Wright, general manager at David Lloyd Bromsgrove said: “The Napercise class was so popular with people down in Sidcup that we’re delighted to be able to offer it to our members here in Bromsgrove.

“We’re also making sure a couple of the classes are available to non-members so the people of Bromsgrove get to experience this unusual but incredibly popular class.

“At David Lloyd Clubs, we’re always looking for new ways to tackle the issues that everyday families face, which is what ‘Napercise’ sets out to do.

“Our Lead PT Richard Cashmore will be leading the class and is excited to be providing our members with something a bit different to what our members normally expect!”

The classes aim to reinvigorate the mind and body – and even burn the odd calorie – as participants curl up in one of the beds and listen to specially selected atmospheric sounds.

The studio temperature will also be dropped to a level that promotes calorie burning during sleep.

The classes have been developed alongside Dreams Sleep expert Kathryn Pinkham and are inspired by past academic studies into the health benefits of napping in the day.

It is thought the sessions will help boost alertness, alleviate feelings of anxiety or stress, and improve mood.
