YOUNG witches and wizards in Bromsgrove celebrated 20 magical years of Harry Potter by transfiguring their school into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Muggles may be unaware that Monday marked two decades since the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published, and Bromsgrove Prep School went owl out for the occasion.

Children apparated to school dressed as their favourite characters from J K Rowling's fantasy novels, with several Harrys, Hermiones, Dobbys and fantastic beasts making an appearance.

Dumbledore's Army and Death Eaters put aside their differences to spend the day making fire paper and bubbling concoctions in Potions class, and handmade wands in Art and Design.

The Worcester Road fields were transformed into a Quidditch pitch and Platform 9 3/4 was temporarily moved to the school's English department.

Lestrange things happened in the library too, with a 'restricted section' making a mysterious appearance.

House elves were hard at work in the school kitchen preparing edible 'worms' and hippogriff eggs for the house tables.

Students also took a chance at trying Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, with the dirt, vomit and earwax flavours causing some sirius-ly disgusted faces around the dinner hall.

A spokesman for Bromsgrove Prep School said: "The catering staff did the Hogwarts kitchens proud by presenting a feast fit for Harry himself.

"Despite the unusually hot weather, the costumes, and high spirits, held up all day."
