A COMPETITION has decided the name of a new care home opening in Bromsgrove's town centre next year.

Patricia Jenkins, who lives in Bromsgrove, won the contest with her name 'Chandler Court', inspired by the town's historic candle makers.

"I was born and raised in Bromsgrove so when the opportunity arose to be a part of the town’s history, I leapt at the chance," Patricia said. "I am delighted Chandler Court has been selected and think it’s a lovely way of preserving the heritage of Bromsgrove and celebrating the history of the town - and the people who live here.

"I hope the new name conjures fond memories for people in the town, as it did for me.”

Chandler Court is set to open in Recreation Road, on the site of the former Drill Hall, at the start of 2018, and will feature its own cinema, hairdressing salon and cafe.

Bilberry Place, a 58 apartment Retirement Living Plus development, owned by McCarthy and Stone, opened on the same road earlier this year.

Daniel Turner-Naylor, regional director of Care UK, which runs Chandler Court, told the Advertiser: "The home naming process is one of the key milestones for the new home, so it was important to involve the community in the decision.

"All of the names put forward were of a very high quality, but we felt Chandler Court was really original and rooted the home in the local area.

“We’re so grateful to everyone that made a name suggestion and Patricia for coming up with the winning name.”

The new four-storey care home, which boasts 81 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to promote elderly residents' independence. For more information on Chandler Court, visit careuk.com/bromsgrove.
