PARAMEDICS and an air ambulance were dispatched to Bromsgrove town centre on Saturday to reports of a man injured after an 'assault'.

Emergency services received the first call at 2.58pm on September 2, and sent a land ambulance, paramedic officer and an air ambulance to the scene on Victoria Road, which arrived within five minutes.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival it became apparent that there hadn't been an assault after all, but rather an unfortunate accident.

"A 59-year-old man suffered an accident while cutting an apple. He slipped and the gentleman cut into his abdomen."

The man was treated for his wounds at the scene, before being taken via land ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
