A NEW library at a Bromsgrove school has been shortlisted for a national award.

The woodland-themed facility at Charford First School, which opened in November, is up for School Library Association's 'Inspiration Award', which recognises innovation, creativity and resourcefulness.

Librarian Jackie Strange said: "We are very excited and proud that our library has been shortlisted for this prestigious award.

"Our Parent and Friends Association worked tremendously hard to organise events which have been fully supported by the children and their families to help fund this wonderful, calm and peaceful environment where the children can develop a love of books and reading."

A judging panel visited Charford Road in April and announced the school was one of three primaries to reach the finals, from a record-breaking number of applicants nationwide.

A School Library Association spokesman said: "The primary schools are all state primaries managing to find innovative ways to fund great designs to ensure their children experience an immersive reading culture in school.

"All offer a unique approach to providing their pupils with books to start the reading habit."

Charford First staff will attend an award ceremony on October 2 in Covent Garden to find out the winner.
