A TALENTED apprentice at Bromsgrove's Severn Trent Water has been shortlisted for a regional award.

As part of this year's EEF Future Manufacturing Awards, Samuel Hayling, who lives in Eversham, has been nominated for an Intermediate and Advanced Final Year Apprentice Award.

The 22-year-old impressed judges in the contest's first rounds with his hard work, dedication and determination to pursue a career in manufacturing.

He will now compete against fellow apprentices from across the Midlands.

Samuel said: "It’s such an honour to have been recognised in this way. I know exactly how much hard work and dedication that every apprentice puts into their apprenticeship so being shortlisted is very special.

"I can’t wait to meet the other apprentices and see how I get on at the awards ceremony.

“My apprenticeship has opened up so many doors. It has given me an invaluable opportunity to pursue a career in an exciting and vibrant sector where I feel my achievements are valued.

"I hope other young people can see this and are inspired to pursue a career in manufacturing.”

The winner will be crowned at a ceremony at Nottingham Trent University on November 10.

If successful, Samuel will go on to compete for the national title, will be announced at an awards gala dinner in London early next year.

Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF, said: "This is a great achievement by Samuel. It’s testament to his dedication to his apprenticeship that he has been shortlisted for this important award."
