ORGANISERS behind an engineering pre-apprenticeship scheme at North Bromsgrove High School are hoping to roll the programme out to companies across the district.

Alan Lusty, founder and CEO of Adi Group, which runs the scheme, is urging businesses, both in the engineering sector and beyond, to join its hands-on curriculum for free.

Alan said: "Not everyone is cut out for university and not all of those thinking about career choices know how great engineering is, so we try to inspire young minds and to open up new pathways into the profession.

"In our pre-apprenticeship programme, we have proof of a wonderful concept that benefits us all – as individuals, as employers, as a community and as a country.

"We believe that if other companies copy what we have created, we can help bring about a sea change, not just in the engineering sphere but in a number of key economic sectors.

Students involved in the scheme from North Bromsgrove High School have spent half a day each week, over the course of two years, learning core engineering skills.

Headteacher Angelina Robin-Jones said: "The engineering pre-apprenticeship with Adi provides our students with the opportunity to experience the real world of work, and discover the range of engineering opportunities open to them.

"The pre-apprenticeship provides a platform for the students to interact with people in a professional manner at the early stages of their education and career planning.

"The pre-apprenticeship students benefit from real-life experience, and the chance to develop essential work related skills and attributes."
