BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has become the 5th government minister to receive a threatening letter offering rewards for the most violent attacks on Muslims.

Mr Javid, who became the Conservative Party's first Muslim MP in 2010, received the parcel, which also contained a 'sticky substance', at his parliamentary office on Thursday (March 15).

The note, which advertises 'Punish a Muslim Day' on April 3, features a points-based scoring system, with 10 points for verbal abuse up to 1,000 points for bombing a mosque and 2,500 to 'nuke Mecca'.

Police forces across the UK, including West Mercia, have launched a hate crime investigation into the letters, which appear to have been dispatched across the country.

Mr Javid said: "I stand with my colleagues from across the House to wholeheartedly condemn this abhorrent behaviour, which has no place in our politics or our society.

"The Met Police investigation is ongoing, and I look forward to whoever is responsible being brought to justice.”

The parcel has since been handed over to police.

West Mercia Police confirmed it is treating the investigation 'extremely seriously', and is working closely with the North East Counter Terrorism Unit, which is heading the enquiry.

Chief Superintendent Charles Hill said: "Tackling hate crime, no matter at whom it is targeted, is a priority for us and we seek to engage closely with members of those communities affected.

"We know that on a national and local level hate crimes are underreported. We are committed to ensuring all victims - no matter what religion, culture, or ethnicity they identify with - have the confidence to come forward and report any incidents or crimes.

"Those who commit hate crimes target people simply because of who they are. Often, the victims of hate crime are some of the most vulnerable members of our society and the impact can have a serious impact on both the individual and the wider community.

"We guarantee we will carry out a thorough investigation into every reported hate crime. We will also ensure safeguarding is in place to look after victims.

"Hate crime in any form will not be tolerated by West Mercia Police."

Residents are urged to report any malicious communications to police on 101.
