A DIY Ladies Night at Broad Street DIY saw a record number of guests turn out to raise money for Dodford Children's Holiday Farm.

More than 50 guests attended the annual event at the Worcester Road store on May 15 - with several ladies already signing up for next year's Ladies Night.

Radio presenter Reg Moule gave tips on seasonal outdoor maintenance tasks, including lawn care and tackling tricky weeds.

TV handymen Huntley Thawe, who compered the evening, delivered a tiling demonstration, before guests were shown how to saw wood, use a power drill, change a door lock and apply silicone sealant.

A number of local tradesmen were also on hand to give professional advice on decorating, plumbing and electrics.

Guest Kate Sears said: "The event was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed learning how to drill. I’m doing my whole house up at the moment so need to learn a wide variety of DIY skills.”

Andrea Drysdale added: "I wanted to learn how to tile so I can do my bathroom. Huntley made it look really easy and his tips were very helpful.”

Bromsgrove businesses including Chequers Hair Salon, Morrisons and Queen of Hearts Photography donated prizes for a charity raffle, which raised £143 for Broad Street DIY's chosen charity of the year Dodford Children's Holiday Farm.

The cash was presented to Jenny Edginton, joint head of the charity's management committee, along with an additional £200 raised at the shop earlier this year.
