A BROMSGROVE businessman has pledged £5,000 of his own money to set up a local branch of the For Britain movement.

Former UKIP parliamentary candidate Jason Rutter has launched an appeal on Twitter for members to join the new Bromsgrove & Redditch For Britain branch.

The 47-year-old, who runs his own transport and logistics firm, left the UKIP party earlier this year.

He said: "I want to raise awareness of For Britain so people know that it’s not just a choice between Labour or Conservative. At the moment when people get unhappy with the Conservatives they go to Labour and vice versa.

"We need to break that trend and show people there are other good parties that are worthy of their votes."

The For Britain movement, headed by party leader Anne Marie Waters, has received significant attention over its controversial stance on Islam.

Jason, who grew up in Bromsgrove, said he eventually plans to put himself forward as a For Britain parliamentary candidate.

He said: "I do know the feeling of a lot of people in Bromsgrove.

“Some people don’t agree with my political rhetoric but I think that’s a misconception by the media."
