SAFETY improvements are set to be made on the A38 in Bromsgrove after dashcam footage of a child cyclist involved in a ‘near miss’ raised concern.

Worcestershire County Council’s highways team will make changes after a boy on a bike was filmed dashing across a car on the 60mph road earlier this month.

Jon Fraser from Highways said: “Keeping the roads safe for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists is incredibly important to us. We would urge pedestrians and cyclists to ensure any highway that they are crossing is clear to avoid accidents.

“In order to make this stretch of road safer we will be cutting vegetation around the crossing to improve visibility and cyclist dismount signs will also be added to warn cyclists of the dangers.”

Robert Allen, Group Commander for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue, who filmed the footage, has since met with the boy and her mother, and said a “very positive conversation” followed.

He added: “There is no intention to name and shame the boy – just to use the incident as a warning that a moment of concentration can ensure an incident-free summer holiday."
