A SPECIAL awards ceremony was held in Droitwich Spa on Monday to honour people who helped out during this summer's floods.

West Midlands Ambulance Service held the event at the Raven Hotel, in Victoria Square, for staff who went above and beyond the call of duty during the flooding which took place in parts of the region in July.

Anthony Marsh, West Midlands Ambulance Service's chief executive, said: "I am delighted to be able to recognise staff that went the extra mile to ensure that patient care was maintained during the recent severe weather.

"The people who have been awarded have been nominated by their peers for their outstanding contribution to the service and I am delighted to be presenting them with a Chief Ambulance Officer Commendation.

"The efforts of West Midlands Ambulance Service received high praise from many organisations and groups during the flooding crisis and rightly so. I am now looking forward to celebrating the achievements of staff and making sure they receive the praise they so richly deserve."
