GREEN Bromsgrove residents had a chance to learn more about recycling and Worcestershire Hub services during a special event in the town centre.

The Worcestershire Hub teamed up with the county council's Mission Impossible waste reduction team to celebrate Hub Week, which ran as part of National Customer Services Week. Staff toured the county in the Mission Impossible bus to give residents information about the range of council services that can be accessed through the Hub. The bus visited Bromsgrove's High Street.

Rachel Brown, marketing and communications officer for Worcestershire Hub, said: "We have been really busy and our aim is to make people aware of the Hub's services. The whole idea of it is to make it easier for residents to access district and county council services."

Cathy Hines, project assistant at Worcestershire County Council waste reduction team, said people coming to the bus had been very positive and wanted to know more about recycling.

"The main queries we have dealt with are what plastic people can recycle and also composting bins. People can recycle plastic bottles, including shampoo and bleach, but at the moment not meat trays, yoghurt pots or fruit trays," she said.

Visitors to the bus were treated to Hub and Mission Impossible goodies, and could fill out a questionnaire to enter a prize draw to win an iPod shuffle.

Also at the bus were representatives from NewStarts recycling and resettlement project. This is a community project that provides furniture and electrical appliances at low cost or no cost to support families and individuals in need.

NewStarts collects and delivers and is the initiative of NewSong Community Church, in Broad Street, Sidemoor.

The project aims to collect, store and reuse unwanted household furniture and white goods, recycle household goods to people in real need, especially those living on benefits or low incomes, and prevent unnecessary disposal of reusable bulky items to landfill sites and preserve the environment.
