Firm’s welcome lift for our soldiers

A BIG thank you has gone out to a transport firm helping Bromsgrove women get Christmas gifts to British soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

An offer from Kirkpatrick Carriers to transport parcels on the first leg of the journey to York came after a plea for help first appeared in the Advertiser/Messenger last month.

Julia Holmes launched the national Support Our Soldiers appeal in Bromsgrove and urged residents to donate boxes of goodies to troops serving in the two war zones.

Her helper, Maria O'Ryan, whose soldier son faces Christmas in Iraq this year, said:"We are very grateful to Kirkpatrick Carriers from Redditch who responded very quickly to our appeal for transport.

"It will be a tremendous help."

Her son Philip Pimlot, who is now on his way to Iraq, has sent an e-mail message to the people of Bromsgrove.

He said: "I'll be thinking of you all in the cold and wet. I really hope you can contribute a gift, however small to the Support our Soldiers campaign.

"I'm lucky to have family who'll send me things but a lot of my friends and colleagues haven't. There's soldiers away from loved ones all over the world and a parcel, even from a stranger is a wonderful boost," said Philip.

Julia and Maria are organising a collection day of completed boxes, or single items, outside Asda supermarket in Bromsgrove on Saturday, November 24, between 10am and 4pm. They also need helpers.

For further information about what to pack or offers of help contact Maria on 07851275711 or Julia on 0121 6806805.
