TICKETS are up for grabs for one of the top names in the folk rock world who are playing in Bromsgrove.

Bromsgrove Folk Club are playing host to Oysterband - acoustic as part of their Meet You There' Tour. The band take to the stage on Thursday, March 13, at Catshill Social Club, in Meadow Road.

I first had the priviledge to hear Oysterband (pictured) a few years ago at Cropredy festival, near Banbury.

I was blown away by their music and was part of thousands dancing in a field to their infectious songs.

Since then I have yearned to see the band live again, and now they are playing in my hometown cannot wait.

Their website says: "Influenced by all manner of music, culture and style, they listened to anything and everything - but the heartbeat of the band was a deep-rooted love of the traditional music of Britain.

"Not the invented tradition of twee choruses and dodgy ideologies that inspired a million fake-rustic cliches, a travesty that turned off the very people it was alleged to represent.

"But a tradition that dealt in integrity, passion, human experience and human emotion - songs that made you want to dance/laugh/cry/jump for joy/kick a few heads in."

Oysterband follow their own instincts, ignoring the latest musical fads.

They describe themselves as folk-based British music, acoustic at heart but not always quiet' and probably one of the best bands you've never heard of.' Now is the chance for Bromsgrovians to put that right, and make sure you listen to one of the finest bands around who will make your feet dance, your heart skip a beat, and you will leave the gig a changed person knowing there is a band who stand up for what they believe in.

This is bound to be one of the highlights in Bromsgrove Folk Club's 2008 calendar.
