League success softens blow of Senior Urn exit


BARNT Green Spartak continued to improve their Midland Combination Premier Division form, but the Lye Meadow-based outfit's defence of the Worcestershire Senior Urn came to an end.

Spartak suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brierley Hill and Withymoor in the Urn's semi-final stage last Wednesday.

But they bounced back on Saturday with a 3-0 league success over Massey Ferguson.

Ruel Prescod, Quentin Townsend and Django Farrell scored the goals which moved Spartak up to 16th place.

GJ Singh's side have two home games this week, starting tonight (Wednesday) against Southam United, followed by the visit of Bartley Green on Saturday.

In Division One, Fairfield Villa took one point from a possible four over the Easter period.

The Stourbridge Road side were beaten 3-2 at home by Thimblemill REC on Saturday, before Leamington Hibernian held them to a 2-2 draw on Bank Holiday Monday.

Villa are on the road this Saturday, when they visit Newhall United.

Meanwhile, Villa's league rivals Droitwich Spa notched an important victory on Saturday, seeing off Earlswood Town 2-1.

Spa face a tough trip to West Midlands Police on Saturday.

There was a narrow defeat for Droitwich Spa Reserves in Division Two.

They lost 1-0 at Northfield Town Reserves.

Spa Reserves host Dosthill Colts in league action this Saturday.
