On your marks for charity run

10:40am Wednesday 9th April 2008

BROMSGROVE residents wishing to lose a few pounds, in more ways than one, are being invited to limber up for this year's charity fun run.

The 20th annual event, aimed at raising funds for leukaemia research, is to take place on May 11 at Bromsgrove Rugby Club in Finstall.

Nicole Harris is once again organising two races. The 10k event for the more serious runners aged 16 and over starts at 11am and five minutes later, there's a 5k fun run/walk from Walnut Lane near the rugby club.

All those who finish will receive a medal and fundraisers will receive a T-shirt on the morning of the race.

Nicole said: "This is a road race through the Worcestershire countryside. The first race took place in 1989 at Barnsley Hall a few weeks after my son passed away. Many runners who took part then are still entering now."

The fun run raises more than £10,000 each year and attracts about 350 to 400 runners from all over the country.

Nicole added: "We hope as many people as possible join us on the day and run or walk in the lovely countryside to help raise money for leukaemia research and celebrate our 20th anniversary."

She said she was grateful to Mark and Joanne Tanner, from Phoenix Carpets in Worcester Road, who already have an entry form, having raised thousands of pounds in the past.

The pre-booked entry fee is £8 for all races and £7.50 for AAA members, but £9 on the day Also on offer will be changing rooms, massages, barbecue and stalls.

All the details are on the website at www.Irfbromsgrove.org.uk.

Other forthcoming events include a quiz night this month and an Asda collection on May 3.
