Fatal car crash woman named

THE woman who died in a crash involving two cars near Clent last Thursday has been named.

The accident happened at 7.25pm on the A491 Bromsgrove to West Hagley dual carriageway, close to the turn for Clent.

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the dead woman’s family."

PC Sian Davies, from North Worcestershire’s road policing unit

Heather Linley, from Redditch and a senior member of staff at Stourbridge College, was driving her blue Volkswagen Golf along the west-bound carriageway towards Bromsgrove, when she lost control.

The vehicle crossed over the central reservation and collided with a white Ford Mondeo, travelling in the opposite direction.

The emergency services, including firefighters, an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, a BASICS emergency doctor and the County Air Ambulance, tried to save the 48-year-old woman, but she was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Mondeo, a Stourbridge woman, was uninjured.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "When crews arrived they found two cars with front end damage and a road sign that was badly damaged. A woman in one of the cars suffered severe injuries and despite all the efforts of the ambulance staff it was unfortunately not possible to save her."

The A491 road was closed in both directions for a number of hours.

PC Sian Davies, from North Worcestershire's road policing unit, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the dead woman's family.

"We have spoken to some witnesses, but would appeal to anyone who saw the collision or noticed the blue Volkswagen Golf beforehand to get in touch with us."

Witnesses, or anyone with information, should contact the North Worcestershire road policing unit on 08457 444888.
