A sharp fall in crime

NEW figures, which show crime throughout the Bromsgrove district has reduced by nearly a third, have been released.

The Bromsgrove Community Safety Partnership says there has been a reduction of comparator crime, which includes criminal damage, violent crime, vehicle crime and domestic burglary, by 32.3 per cent over the last three years.

"We will not rest on our successes but will continue to ensure our district really is a safe place for people to live, visit and work in.”

This is almost double the target set by the Home Office in 2005 to reduce comparator crime by 17.5 per cent by March this year.

The new figures also show the annual rate for comparator crimes has fallen from 4,835 to 3,271 - a total of 1,564 less.

Chief Inspector Tony Love, chairman of the Bromsgrove Community Safety Partnership, said: "Partners have worked very hard to achieve the reduction in crime and disorder across Bromsgrove district during the last three years.

"However, we will not rest on our successes but will continue to ensure our district really is a safe place for people to live, visit and work in."

Councillor Roger Hollingworth, leader of Bromsgrove District Council, said: "Bromsgrove's Community Safety Partnership is to be congratulated for achieving such a dramatic reduction in these crimes.

"Local residents and people who work and visit the district can rest assured that we will continue to do all we can to crackdown and reduce the fear of crime," added Cllr Hollingworth.
