GARDEN centre staff hope to welcome hundreds of visitors to enjoy an annual fun day this weekend.

Customers at Webbs of Wychbold can test their skill in a wellie wanging competition, while dog lovers can take time to find out more from the Perry Barr Greyhound Awareness Roadshow.

Droitwich Ferret Welfare and The Worcestershire Wildlife Trust will also be on hand from 11am-4pm this Sunday, July 13.

A riverside rally duck race will be held with profits from the £1 entry fee going to Webbs' chosen charities - St Richard's, Primrose and Acorns Hospices.

Entertainment will include the Fidgety Feet Jazz Band, Appalachian music and dancing, face painting, Professor Pepperpot and children's fair rides. Hunger pangs can be chased away at the barbecue demonstrations and food hall tastings.

The event will also see the final of the children's growing competition with hundreds of budding young gardeners expected to bring their bright pink petunia shock wave plants along for judging.

A record 1,300 children from 20 local schools in the Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa area have been busy nurturing their plants ready for the grand final.

All entrants taking their plant to Webbs on the day will receive a medal and a shock wave pen. Winners will be picked from each school, as well as an overall champion of champions who will receive a trophy, Webbs vouchers and other prizes.

Executive chairman Ed Webb said: "This is a fantastic year for Webbs, winning the title of UK Garden Centre of the Year for the second year running. We want to share our success with our loyal customers and visitors and look forward to welcoming them to join our celebration family fun day."
