Ale and hearty as beer festival is a big success

REVELLERS have been drinking to another successful Bromsgrove Beer Festival.

Townsfolk flocked to the festival, in its sixth year, which was described by organisers as one of the best ever held.

"The figures prove there is a demand for good quality real ale and that there is a real choice out there.”

Around 2,000 ale-lovers attended last weekend's event at the Bromsgrove Rugby Club, Finstall. This was up ten per cent on last year.

Visitors enjoyed a choice of 102 beers, 24 perries and fruit wines.

Run by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the festival saw 64 new members join the organisation, the highest joining figure in the festival's history.

Charlie Ayres, festival organiser and chairman of the Bromsgrove and Redditch branch of CAMRA, said despite mixed weather the three day event, held between last Thursday and Saturday, had been a great success.

Local multiple sclerosis charity JAYS managed to raise £898.25 at the event and the Motor Neurone Disease group were also well supported.

Charlie added: "There has been a mix of old and young here, and not just males. The figures prove there is a demand for good quality real ale and that there is a real choice out there."
