Talking with our European friends

PUPILS from a Rubery school got the chance to improve their language skills during a visit to Bromsgrove's twin town.

Seven students, who are studying German at Waseley Hills High School, enjoyed a programme of events when they flew out to a Gronau camp for a seven-day stay.

Alongside youngsters from Hungary and their German hosts, the Rubery youngsters enjoyed cycling round the countryside, visiting the town's Rock n' Pop Museum in the LAGA garden, where the Bromsgrove and District Twinning Association has their own garden, and riding to Enschede, Holland, to eat lunch in a new youth centre.

At the camp site, by the Drilandsee lake in Gronau, the group took part in a variety of sports including canoeing, football and volleyball. The students, accompanied by former chairman of the district council, Janice Boswell, parish councillor Janet King and Youth Blackwell organisers Lauren Collins, also took time to visit a theme park and the town's cinema.

Lucy Mason, aged 18, was interviewed by the local news channel and the visit received coverage in the town's local press.
