School is upwardly mobile

THE term ‘upwardly mobile’ took on a literal meaning when work began to build two new classrooms at a town school.

Youngsters and staff at Lickey End First watched in amazement when a giant crane was used to lift two mobile classrooms out of the way in readiness for building work to begin.

Headteacher Ann Hill said the ‘temporary’ classrooms had been in use for about 12 years and some of the children, who had got attached to them, were rather sorry to see them go.

The new classrooms have been specially designed to let in maximum light and will be ‘green’ as their living roofs will be covered with sedum plants.

Each new classroom will be linked to the main Victorian school building by corridors. This will be welcomed by pupils, especially in bad weather, who in the past, have had to dash between the two.

Ann said: “The new accommodation should be completed by Easter and will be a fabulous addition to the school.”
