GENEROUS householders in Bromsgrove temporarily forgot the credit crunch and other money worries when they dug deeply into their pockets to help a charity raise a record sum.

The 15 members of Bromsgrove Round Table, who toured the Bromsgrove district with their popular musical Santa’s sleigh before Christmas, raised a record £6,233.

Delighted Tablers chairman Craig Rooke said: “Despite the tough financial situation we had great support and warm welcomes from people in the areas we visited.”

Now, with the sleigh stored away until next December, Craig and his pals want suggestions and help in deciding where the cash can be best spent. These may be made by charities or individuals.

Dodford Children’s Holiday Farm has been one local good cause to benefit in the past from the proceeds. Also before Christmas the Tablers ran a festive colouring competition, which was open to youngsters at all town first schools.

“We had a great response and I want to thank all the children who took part,” Craig said.

Two of the three winners received their prizes of art studio packs at their Stoke Prior school on Friday.

Craig added that they are keen to recruit more members to their Round Table ranks.
