GARDENERS will be delighted to know that several more local gardens will be open to the public under the National Gardens Scheme later this month (May).
On May 3, 4, 24 and 25 Whitlenge Gardens, Whitlenge Lane, Hartlebury, will be open from 10am to 5 pm. The admission £2.50 (children free) This is a three acre show garden of professional designer with over 800 varieties of trees, shrubs and other species. It also contains a twisted pillar pergola, camomile lawn, waterfalls and pools, as well as mystic features of the Green Man, sword in the stone and cave fernery.
Refreshments are available in the garden tea room. If you would like to know more about this garden then go to www.whit-lenge.co.uk At the end of the month, on May 31, Marlbrook Gardens (group gardens) in Braces Lane, Marlbrook, Bromsgrove, will be open from 1.30-5.30 pm. Admission is £5 to all three gardens involved in the NGS charity scheme (children free).
The three are stunning gardens of contrasting styles which were featured in the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine last June.
The gardens involved are 24 Braces Lane – a gently sloping south facing garden landscaped into different ‘rooms’,; ‘Saranacris’, 28A Braces Lane – a challenging terraced garden in an old sand quarry; and ‘Oak Tree House’, 504 Birmingham Road – a plantsman's cottage garden overflowing with plants, pots and interesting artefacts. Another garden open on May 30/31 is White Cottage, Earls Common Road, Stock Green, near Inkberrow. This has two acres of herbaceous and shrub beds, a stream, spring wild flower area, rose garden, raised woodland bed, large specialist collection of hardy geraniums, Echinacea and a nursery. The garden was featured on BBC ‘Gardeners World’ last May and to see around it the will cost £2.50 (children free, concessions £2). It will be open from 2 to 5pm.
