NOVEMBER 5 certainly went off with a bang for Millfields First School pupils, when they were treated to performances by professional musicians from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO). Orchestra members Byron Parish on violin, Mark O’Brien on clarinet and saxophone, Wendy Quirk on piano, Tom Miller on bass, Jon Quirk on trumpet and Pete Hill on drums led a workshop entitled Vibrations, showing the children how sound is created by their instruments. Performances included Flight of The Bumblebee and Rhapsody in Blue as well as popular tunes which delighted the children. The youngsters children were in awe of the performances and had the opportunity to join in, alongside the musicians. Teacher Sharon Taylor said: “Music is an integral part of the curriculum at Millfields and for our pupils to experience music played by professional musicians has been a real privilege.
“Millfields First School would like to thank the CBSO for taking the time to visit and inspire their pupils.”
