BROMSGROVE Liberal Democrats have selected their prospective candidate for the constituency who will fight the next general election.

The party selected Philip Ling by an overwhelming majority at a hustings held in Blackwell, in early December.

Mr Ling, 29, is from Warwick and has studied economics at the University of Bath. His career has covered the civil service to telecommunications, and he is currently working for a retail bank.

Mr Ling said he would offer Bromsgrove residents ‘positive politics’ and look for solutions.

He said he wanted to offer a long term vision for the town, with plans to improve Bromsgrove High Street, work with other authorities and the wider community to tackle the recession, and attract emerging industries into the region.

Philip said: "I’m very happy and privileged to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat’s prospective parliamentary candidate in Bromsgrove, and I am looking forward to giving the people of the constituency a real choice in the next general election.”

Geoff Ray, chairman of Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats, said Philip had been a breath of fresh air for the party, and his youth and enthusiasm made him an ideal candidate.

He added: “During the last few months he has invigorated our local party and I know he will do the same for Bromsgrove.”
