TWO men are lucky to have escaped with their lives after the paraglider they were travelling in collided with some overhead power cables in Worcestershire.

The powered parachute came down in a field off Grimley Lane in Finstall, Bromsgrove, at around 8.05pm on Wednesday, APril 21.

Two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance and a senior paramedic officer from West Midlands Ambulance Service and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “It was not clear why the parachute, which has a propeller at the back, came down where it did. The parachute was looped over the cables with the seat near ground level.

“When crews arrived they found both men out of the seating; one had managed to escape himself but the other was helped free by a local woman who came to their aid.

“The first man was complaining of chest and back pain. He was estimated to be in his 30s. After being immobilised he was taken by land ambulance to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

“The second man is believed to have broken his leg and had neck pain. He was also immobilised but this time, he was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital due to his condition.

“Crews at the scene said that both men had been extremely lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries.”
