RESIDENTS of a Charford street famous for its fundraising activities, have stepped up once more to raise money for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA).

One of the residents of Kenyon Close, Edna Harrison, organised a 900 mile cycling challenge involving her son Martin Foxall, a former resident, and two others, with intensive fundraising from the rest of the close.

The charity was chosen after a member of the family was born with a cleft lip and CLAPA stepped in to help.

Mr Foxall said: “We wanted to do something for CLAPA in acknowledgement of the support they have given the family, particularly as they don’t seem to get the recognition that many other charities do. We all trained a lot harder for this than anything we’ve done previously, however the best motivation was knowing that for every mile we completed, we raised another £5 for the charity. The support and advice CLAPA have given to the family has been immense and let’s hope this goes a small way to paying them back.”

The cycling challenge from John O’Groats to Lands End, managed to raise £5,000, which included a substantial amount from the Kenyon Close residents.

Mr Foxall added: “The residents of Kenyon Close continue to amaze me, it is a very close community and everyone is incredibly supportive. They must be the most generous road in the district.”

Although the challenge has now been completed, money can still be donated at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JOGLE4CLAPA.
