BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has been given a promotion as part of Prime Minister David Cameron’s reshuffle prompted by the resignation of Defence Secretary Liam Fox.

Mr Fox resigned last Friday, (October 14), as a result of the controversy surrounding his relationship with his friend Adam Werritty.

Mr Javid has taken up a new job as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Chancellor, George Osbourne.

The town MP moves from his previous role as a PPS to John Hayes MP, the Skills Minister, a job he has held since November 2010.

Mr Javid will play a key role as the Chancellor’s contact in the House of Commons.

The MP will also use experience, gained from working at Chase Manhattan Bank and Deutsche Bank, in his new role which will see him advise the Chancellor.

Mr Javid said: “I was delighted and honoured to accept this appointment from the Prime Minister.

“My experience as the PPS to the Skills Minister, and my 20 years in business and finance prior to Parliament, will be valuable in my new position at the Treasury.

“The Government’s most important job at the moment is to get the economy growing again, and I will do everything I can to help the Chancellor with his essential work.”
