THIShasbeenabusyperiod for the club with a number of events being organised, including the annual charter dinner celebrating 32 years of Lionism in Bromsgrove.

The formal dinner, held at the Bromsgrove Hilton, was enjoyed by almost 100 Lions and their friends, from some 14 clubs within the district.

Members have continued to join in with other Lions clubs in the area attending a quiz night at Malvern and a race night at Droitwich Spa.

Bromsgrove Lions were supported at their race night by members from a number of other clubswithallwhoattended being treated to a ploughman’s supper.

A donation of £1,200 was made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’ Birmingham’s Homes for the Brave appeal following a tour of the new hospital.

Members were shown round some of the world-class facilities and were introduced to Colonel Kevin Beaton, who is the commanding officer of the unit for injured military personnel at the hospital.

Niall Murphy, of Special Olympics, Worcestershire, gave a talk to the club explaininghowthey encourage youngsters with learning difficulties to take part in a number of sporting activities.

Niall’s son, Richard, who has won several medals in a range of sports, alsocameto the meeting to show us some of his trophies and to answer questions.

Bromsgrove Lions support this organisation and Niall was presented with a cheque for £200. In March, some club members acted as marshals at the annual rugby tournament sponsored by local Lions clubs and hosted by Worcester Warriors at their Sixways ground.

This very successful event aims to encourage girls aged 11 to 14 into the sport andwassupported by teams from several schools in the area. Congratulations go to Haybridge High School, Hagley, who won both age groups.
