Save the Alex rally was "totally fantastic", says campaign leader

THE leader of the Save the Alex campaign has hailed this morning's Redditch town centre rally as "totally fantastic".

Neal Stote said that more than 1,500 people turned up to the event, which started at the town hall before proceeding to the bandstand for a series of speeches.

Mr Stote said: "There was families, individuals, babies, the elderly, people who were Redditch born and bred, and many from further afield.

"There was some great speeches, and there was also the announcement that a meeting with top ministers has been arranged so they can hear what we are trying to protect.

"Members of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust were invited to come along today but they declined.

"Through their meetings, the trust has directly addressed 390 people. At today's rally alone, our speakers addressed 1,500 people, and our petition to save the hospital has 46,000 signatures.

"I think it's a shame nobody from the trust could come this morning and see just how strongly people from all sections of society feel about the threat to our hospital.

"I am so grateful to everyone who attended. It was totally fantastic."
