HOUSE builder Persimmon Homes have selected St Basils youth homelessness charity as one of 24 finalists to win a three bedroom house worth £250,000, in a competition it has launched as part of its 40th birthday celebrations.

St Basils help 4,000 young people across the West Midlands per year and can house over 400 per night. St Basils, which has supported accommodation projects in Redditch and Bromsgrove, aims not only to help young people find and keep a home but also to develop their confidence, skills and opportunities and stop the cycle of exclusion and homelessness.

St Basils, which will also be celebrating its 40th anniversary later this year, is the only charity in the West Midlands still in the running for the competition, but needs to receive the most votes from the general public in order to win the house.

Jean Templeton, chief executive of St Basils, said: “This fantastic prize could help make huge improvements to some of our supported accommodation schemes and even help towards acquiring even more accommodation and bed spaces for vulnerable young people.”

Steven Hird, Persimmon Homes West Midlands managing director, said:  “In total Persimmon Homes had over 3,500 nominations for this competition.

“We’re now calling on the general public to cast a vote on our website. It would be a fantastic boost to a local service, if St Basils was to win.”

There is no form to fill in, it's literally just the click of a button and takes a couple of seconds. Supporters can vote every 24 hours until the closing date on September 20. To vote, see 40.persimmonhomes.com/vote.

The winner will be announced at a special birthday luncheon on September 27.
