Event to showcase sports available in Bromsgrove

TOWNSFOLK who have caught Olympic and Paralympic fever this summer are being invited to an event showing what sports are available in Bromsgrove.

High 5, being held in Sanders Park off Kidderminster Road, offers free sports performances, taster sessions and activities from clubs and organisations.

Organised by Bromsgrove District Council, the event includes a special community games It’s A Knockout style competition, and for the first time will incorporate the fifth annual Bromsgrove Sports Awards, with the ceremony being broadcast on a big screen.

There will also be a dedicated disability and inclusive sports section, with racing chairs and trikes available to try out, and clubs including Hotshots Wheelchair Basketball Club and Bromsgrove Boccia Boars running taster sessions and demonstrations.

For the over 50s age group, there will be a health and wellbeing area offering advice and information from Bromsgrove District Housing Trust, the Alzheimer’s Society and Act on Energy.

The section includes information on local walks, a healthy eating cooking demonstration stand and health MOTs from the NHS Health Trainer Service.

A community safety section will offer a number of interactive displays, including a car that has been set-up to show residents how to avoid being a victim of car crime, an inflatable assault course, and a shed showing how residents can keep theirs secure.

Creative residents can also interact with a digital graffiti booth.

Councillor Mike Webb, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “The High 5 event has grown significantly this year, with the inclusion of the Bromsgrove Sports Awards.

“This provides the opportunity for the whole community to celebrate the district’s sporting success.”

The event is being held on Sunday, September 9, between 11am-4pm.

The awards ceremony takes place between noon-1.30pm, while the community games competition will be held between 2-3pm.
