A BROMSGROVE couple have been celebrating 60 happy years of marriage.

Fairfield pair Beryl and Ellis Tucker reached the milestone last Thursday.

The diamond couple were married at Days Lane Baptist Church, in Kent, on August 30, in 1952.

Ellis says he remembers the wedding day as being a nice summers day, but the honeymoon in Swanage was a bit of a disaster as he was ill and they had to return home.

The pair met through the church, as both are committed Christians. Today, they are regulars at Catshill Baptist Church.

After Ellis finished national service in Germany, the pair moved to Leicester, then came to Bromsgrove in 1966 - where they have lived ever since.

Ellis used to work as an engineer at Bromsgrove Urban District Council, before it became Bromsgrove District Council, while Beryl worked at Bromsgrove College - today New College.

Ellis said when they first moved to Bromsgrove they didn’t have any intention of staying for long, but in the end they settled and raised their family in the area.

The couple have two children and three grandchildren, and the family celebrated the milestone at the Chateau Impney on Sunday.

Ellis added they had enjoyed some wonderful anniversary surprises, including a card from the Queen in her Diamond Jubilee year.
