Garden centre welcomes spiky visitors
3:30pm Sunday 9th September 2012 in News
TWO baby hedgehogs were the focus of attention of customers at Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold.
Little Milo and Shirley need regular hand feeding so were taken along by Jayne Lawrence, one of the founders of Willows Hedgehog Rescue in Bromsgrove. She visited the garden centre on September 1 and 2 to explain to customers about the work of the organisation.
The self funded hedgehog rescue service is dedicated to helping to care for orphaned, distressed and injured hedgehogs.
She said: “More and more people are realising that hedgehogs are in decline and want to help. At Webbs a number of people offered release sites and secure gardens for disabled hedgehogs.
“Milo was an orphan that came in after his mother was sadly killed by a dog. Shirley came into us in with her mother after their nest was destroyed but she wasn’t putting on weight so we had to take over feeding and now she’s doing well. We are grateful to both Webbs and their customers for their support.”
