OLYMPIC cyclist Jess Varnish has been out on her bike to support a charity cycle ride.

The Bromsgrove-born cyclist, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic medal in the summer, supported Team Matrix’s charity ride when it visited Dudley.

The two day tour of the Midlands, starting in Lichfield and ending in Evesham, was organised by Matrix Housing Partnership.

The ride included visits to a range of schemes for vulnerable people, including for young and older people, low income families and people with disabilities.

Jess joined Team Matrix’s ride on Thursday, (September 6), cycling round Dudley.

The 120 mile fund-raiser raised more than £5,000 for homeless charity Shelter.

Olympic finalist Jess Varnish said: “British cycling is the best in the world and it is great to see local people like Team Matrix, using their cycles to raise money for homeless people.”

Mike Pritty, from Team Matrix said: “On behalf of Matrix, I am delighted and very proud that our Jess, a local girl, turned out to support our effort.”
