BROMSGROVE’S MP enjoyed a trip back in time to see one of the few remaining Chartist cottages in the UK, which is based in the town.

Rosedene, a small grade two listed cottage in Dodford, is owned by the National Trust.

Sajid Javid was intrigued by the story of the village, one of the few remaining Chartist settlements when he visited the Chartist cottage.

The cottage, the MP said, is a rare material reminder of the struggle for the working classes to secure the vote in the 1830s and 1840s.

He took a tour of the cottage, given by National Trust guide Kate Shaw.

He said: “As a politician I found it fascinating to hear the history of how our democracy was shaped by these individuals.

“It’s great to have such rich local history in my constituency.”
