Bromsgrove MP visits town library
3:00pm Sunday 23rd September 2012 in News
Library tour: Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid was given a tour of Bromsgrove Library by Abigail Williams, the library’s manager.
BROMSGROVE’S MP has taken a tour around the town’s library, viewing the current facilities and looking at plans for a new library.
Sajid Javid dropped in on Bromsgrove Library, in Stratford Road, earlier this month and met staff who showed the MP round the current facility.
During the visit, the MP saw the library’s display providing information on the proposed plans to open a new library in the former Parkside School building, in Stourbridge Road.
The former school would also house a customer service centre, registry office, a community hall and offices for staff, in a multi-purpose community facility.
Mr Javid said: “Building an impressive new library facility on the school site will be highly beneficial to the people of Bromsgrove.
“Locating a range of local services, including the library, in one place will be more convenient and I am sure will provide an improved level of service to those using the library.”
Library users, he added, would benefit from an improved library service if the move were to go ahead with increased opening hours, more space for adult and children's learning, extra meeting space, increased wifi and internet access, and a cafe.
Townsfolk are being encouraged to have their say on plans as part of the 12-week consultation, which is running until October 12.
