Town event to celebrate International Older People's Day
3:10pm Friday 28th September 2012 in News
RESIDENTS are being invited to get involved and enjoy themselves with an afternoon of socialising in recognition of International Older People’s Day.
The Bromsgrove Forum for Older People has joined with the Bromsgrove Partnership and Bromsgrove District Council to organise and host this event being held this Monday, October 1, in the Spadesbourne Suite, Burcot Lane between 12.30-5pm.
The program for the day will include live music, light refreshments, information displays and the launch of the updated directory - Together Bromsgrove Plus - which includes contact details, news and information of interest to older people living in and visiting the town.
Guests attending the event will see displays from Age UK, Act on Energy, Bromsgrove Forum for Older People and Bromsgrove District Council, as well as many others.
Councillor Margaret Sherrey, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for health and wellbeing, said: “I think it is brilliant that we are hosting this event to celebrate International Older People’s Day and it will be a good opportunity for people from across the district to come together and enjoy themselves.
“In Bromsgrove district our older residents are very important – not only because they make up 40 per cent of the population but also because of the contribution they can, and do, make to our communities.
“For this reason I am proud to say that we are celebrating this with our event.”
