BELBROUGHTON residents again had something to crow about as thousands descended on the village for this year’s scarecrow festival.

The theme for this year’s event was 2012, the unforgettable summer of sport and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and it proved popular with villagers.

The streets of the picturesque village were filled with ex-straw special Wurzel versions of Her Majesty and Britain’s sporting heroes including straw versions of Bradley Wiggins, Tom Daley, and David ‘the Weirwolf’ Weir.

There were also a number of attractions to keep visitors entertained, including classic cars, a falconry display, a craft fair, bell ringing, and floral displays.

Organisers said the primary function of the weekend, other than having family fun and enjoying the villager’s creations, is to generate funds for Belbroughton organisations.

Belbroughton’s Primary School, Holy Trinity Church, and Animal Sanctuary and Protection are among the organisations that have previously benefited from the fund-raising weekend.
