Police say no knife-point robbery at Bromsgrove shop
1:10pm Friday 5th October 2012 in News
BROMSGROVE police have issued a clarification on an incident at a High Street shop, initially called a knife-point robbery.
It was first reported by police that a member of staff was robbed at knife point in order to steal the takings at Oswald Bailey, at around 5.30pm on Saturday, September 29.
In a statement, police say it has now been established that in fact no one was threatened with a weapon during the incident.
Investigating officers found, although money was stolen, there is “no evidence to suggest a robbery took place”.
Police now believe someone walked into the shop, through an unlocked door, stealing the takings from the counter.
Officers are appealing for witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously outside the shop, or who know anyone who has come into a quantity of cash in dubious circumstances, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0300 333 3000, quoting 609S 290912, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
