EXCITED Bromsgrove youngsters enjoyed a visit from a television action hero, as part of his whirlwind tour around the UK.

Bear Grylls, the British adventurer who is the UK’s chief scout, met town scouts during his visit to Bromsgrove on Saturday, October 8.

The Bromsgrove helicopter stop was one of 16 across the Midlands and Wales made by the presenter, best known for his Born Survivor series.

During the town visit Bear, and his family, took part in scout activities and gave a motivational speech to scouts and voluntary leaders.

Bromsgrove scout leader Amanda Cardall said: “It was great to have Bear involved this weekend – the young people were really excited and can’t stop talking about it.”

Bear’s visit is part of his four-year tour of the UK, during which he is hoping to inspire more adults to volunteer for scouting.

Bear said at every event he has been to he has met young people taking part in the adventures scouting provides, but said it was crucial more adults sign up to ensure all young people have the opportunity to become a scout.
