Alexandra Wood plays Brahms's violin concerto

ALEXANDRA Wood, one of the most dynamic and versatile violinists of her generation, joins Birmingham Chamber Orchestra for a concert at the Artrix.

Alexandra regularly leads Birmingham Contemporary Music Group - notably in Carnegie Hall in 2008 - and is building international renown for her passionate and expressive playing.

With Birmingham Chamber Orchestra, she will be performing Brahms's extraordinary violin concerto.

For Martin Leigh, conductor of the orchestra, the work has a special meaning.

He said: “Brahms wrote the work for dearest friend, Joseph Joachim.

“Throughout, soloist and orchestra combine, collaborate and conspire in some of the composer's most lyrical music.”

He added: “We are delighted once more to be working with Alexandra, and to be bringing this extraordinary player for the first time to Artrix.”

The orchestra will also perform the much-loved Sixth Symphony by Dvořák.

The performance is on Saturday, October 20 at 3pm.

Tickets cost £10 (£5 under 16) and are available online by visiting birminghamchamberorchestra.com or by calling 01527 577 330.
