Litter pick in Bromsgrove a big success

BROMSGROVE District Council’s waste and street scene team recently joined forces with staff from the town’s Asda store to tackle littering.

The big litter pick focused on the area around Asda’s grounds in the town centre and was a big success, with staff from both organisations working hard to clean up the area.

The idea came about after Dawn Baylis, Community Life Champion at the store, contacted the council’s waste and street scene team.

The big litter pick brings the council’s six month “Love Where You Live” campaign to a close. “Love Where You Live” is a national campaign by Keep Britain Tidy, run in association with local authorities.

Since April 2012, Bromsgrove District Council has carried out various activities to inspire residents to think about their communities and take action to reduce litter in the locations where they live, the places they visit and the spaces that they use.

The campaign in Bromsgrove has focused particularly on litter thrown from vehicles, fast food litter and cigarette litter by trying to encourage residents to use litter bins.

Councillor Michael Webb, the council’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “I am pleased these events are taking place and it is good to see local businesses are getting involved with residents to tidy up their towns. We need local people to take pride in where they live and help us to create a cleaner and safer environment in which to live, work and play.”

Although the Love Where You Live campaign has now finished, anyone who would like some advice or support about tackling litter in an area can contact Anna Wardell-Hill on 01527 881715.
