Hope for Georgia campaign raises thousands in just five weeks
10:00am Tuesday 16th October 2012 in News
A FUND-RAISING campaign, supporting a two-year-old Bromsgrove girl with cerebral palsy, is gathering pace.
Georgia Almquest, the daughter of Natalie Naughton and Dan Almquest, has cerebral palsy which affects all four limbs, preventing her from being able to hold her head up, sit or crawl.
Doctors have said it is unlikely she will be ever be able to walk, but fund-raisers are hoping to raise enough money so she can receive stem cell therapy that could dramatically improve Georgia’s quality of life.
Hope for Georgia is a campaign aiming to raise this money so that she can receive treatment abroad.
A £20,000 target has been set, and so far more than £10,000 has been raised in just five weeks through a variety of events including a golf day, a nine mile midnight walk, and Georgia’s birthday party, held at Bromsgrove Golf Club last Saturday.
Georgia’s mum, Natalie, says she has been overwhelmed by the support for the campaign.
“I thought it would take a year to raise the money to get half-way there, so to do it in five weeks - everyone has been brilliant," she said.
“I’ve not even had chance to organise my own event yet.
“We need to raise the money as quickly as possible so Georgia can receive the treatment while her brain is developing."
Bromsgrove residents can support the campaign’s fund-raising events, being held in the next few weeks.
On Friday, October 26, a fun night including an auction and raffle is being held at the Austin Sports and Social Club, in Tessall Lane, Longbridge.
The following night, October 27, the Boat and Railway Inn, in Shaw Lane, Stoke Prior, is holding a Halloween Disco.
More events are planned throughout November, including a fancy dress party, a poker tournament and a bag pack.
