Special performance of AE Housman's best loved work
10:10am Monday 22nd October 2012 in News
THE complete cycle of poems from the best known work of Bromsgrove’s most famous son is being performed at a Bromsgrove theatre this Friday, (October 26).
World renowned bartione singer James Rutherford and pianist Simon Lepper will be performing AE Housman’s famous A Shropshire Lad, at the Artrix Theatre, in School Drive, from 8pm.
The cycle of 63 poems contains some of the Bromsgrove born poet’s best loved verse, and the event is part of the Housman Society’s weekend, being held at Housman Hall.
James Rutherford will perform live 23 of the songs, while a CD recording of James' voice reading the rest of the poems will be played - so he can focus on the musical performance on the evening.
Each poem will be presented with a projected photograph, specially taken for a new illustrated edition of the poems.
Janet Upward, chairman of Bromsgrove Concerts, said: “This is going to be a very special concert for us in our 15th season.
“I hope many people in Bromsgrove will come to enjoy this unique presentation of Housman’s work.”
Tickets are priced at £16, £6 for concessions including registered disabled, unemployed or full time students over 25.
A subscription of eight Bromsgrove Concerts tickets cost £75, or four is priced at £40.
Youngsters, under 25, go free.
Tickets are available from Artrix’s website, artrix.co.uk, or by calling 01527 577330.
