Vulnerable state

WHAT is Bromsgrove District Council doing to our elderly, especially those in sheltered accommodation?

First of all they take the wardens away between the hours of 10pm until 8am the next morning, when these older people are at there most vulnerable. Now they are proposing to charge them £5 a week for the wardens to ring them every morning to see if they are alright.

If an accident was to happen during the night, although they are on night line, they would have to pull a cord. Who would be held responsible if they couldn't reach the cord?

Furthermore, they are cutting the mid-day meals to five days a week at £5+ a day.

Many residents have no families. So who will supply meals at weekends? Christmas and Boxing Day meals are also to be cut out as from this year. This is not a Government problem, but our local Conservative problem.

I suggest there are other areas in this town where they can save money - ie the salaries and expenses claimed by our so-called councillors who are supposed to represent the people of Bromsgrove.

These elderly people need our support. Most have worked hard all their lives and paid taxes. I cannot believe how they are being treated.

Mrs Doreen Carter, Bromsgrove
