AS usual the annual Bromsgrove Cottage Hospital fundraising ball in the Drill Hall attracted the cream of local society. The hall was lavishly decorated with white, yellow and green muslin and Chinese lanterns. A special fabric cover was used on the dance floor. Additional stoves and lavatory facilities were laid on for the 113 or so who attended.

HANBURY Coursing Committee had reluctantly decided not to stage its spring meeting this year, due to a lack of hares. The last meeting in November had not provided the hounds with much sport and it was felt that by leaving it a few months the hare population would recover. The committee stressed it was no reflection on tenant farmer George Penrice, of Park Farm, on whose land the meetings were held.

AROUND 100 poor children from the Catshill area of Bromsgrove enjoyed the first of this year's halfpenny dinners. They consisted of a good bowl of soup followed by a slice of bread and jam. The meals, which were much appreciated by the youngsters in the dead of winter, were provided three days a week in the village's Liberal Hall. It was thanks to the hall custodians that they graciously allowed the soup to be made in their copper boiler.
