25 Years Ago, March 18, 1983

MEMBERS of Bromsgrove Slimming Club celebrated their first anniversary with a visit to Array Fruit Farm in Perryfield Road. There they were confronted by an enormous pile of apples, weighing 850lb, which represented how much weight members had managed to peel off last year.

IT emerged that a new £6.5m ambulance station could be built in Bromsgrove. Health chiefs were to decide whether to spend the cash or £32,000 on repairing the present building, which was in a poor state of repair. Another suggestion being considered was to build the station near the new district general hospital now under construction at Redditch.

BED racing, fancy dress, discos and a beauty contest were just some of the events being planned for Bromsgrove carnival in June. The highlight would be a big parade with the theme World of Make Believe, when it was hoped to invite a TV star to take part.
